The demonstration application provided as source code in this package does the following:

displays a series of banners on the LCD and sends them to UART1
turns the display backlight on and off
counts down from 10 to 0, sounding the beeper at each count
displays a clock on the LCD, showing hours, minutes and seconds
simultaneously, computes prime numbers and displays them on the LCD
also simultaneously, looks for commands at UART1
commands 'bl0' and 'bl1' turn the display backlight off and on, respectively
command 'clock' switches to clock setting mode
in clock setting mode, 'h', 'm' and 's' advance the hours, minutes and seconds by one count, 'H', 'M' and 'S' put them back by one count and 'q' quits to normal mode
the clock accuracy, typically better than 10 seconds per day, reflects the MCU crystal frequency accuracy and can be used to trim it
