The History of ECROS Technology

I operated ECROS Technology as a sole proprietorship from 2002 to 2019. After the dot-com bubble burst in 2000, I was laid off by the communications and networking start-up for which I was working. I decided that maybe I didn't need a regular job quite as much as people with children to feed and little money in the bank, so I would try my hand at freelance. I took contract positions, undertook projects as an independent consultant and signed on for a few (unsatisfying) full-time jobs. In between, I developed and marketed a few simple products and gadgets for electronics enthusiasts. In August 2014, I joined the staff at a hospital inventory management company. Sales of my neglected product line trailed off and when I retired in February of 2019 I decided not to continue beyond the end of the year.

Why a Wiki?

Owning an internet domain name and paying for a Web hosting service isn't at all expensive. E-mail to my own domain and server is far more reliable than to my Internet service provider, Verizon Fios. So, I'll keep it. Over time, I'll remove the business stuff that's no longer relevant. But there's other stuff I want to keep (for example, recipes), and new stuff I want to add (a journal of my woodworking exploits). I've not kept up with Web design and don't have the motivation to learn, but I have used a variety of Wikis. So, this is now how I will author my Web content. It's not a Wiki that everyone can edit, it's just a place where I can put stuff that I've written without having to write actual Web pages.
